Located in the center of Riverside Park, the Iola Swimming Pool, built in 1937 by the Workers Progress Administration (WPA) served as the center of the city park and the main activity for the City’s Parks & Recreation Department.  From 1937 to 2007 the pool held numerous swim meets, events and 70 years of summer time swimming for the residents of Iola, Kansas.  In 2007 Riverside Park flooded and the swimming pool and bath house would not be operational again.

Fast forward to September 2008 when the City of Iola hired Prosser Wilbert Construction, Inc. along with the Design-Build team of Continental Pools, Inc. and Abeln and Associates, Architects to rebuild the swimming pool and give the residents of Iola a ‘new’ swimming pool without compromising the ‘old’ identity of the WPA project built some 70 years earlier.  In the end the existing 6,208 SF bath house was renovated and a new 9,600 SF, 290,000 gallon swimming pool and water slide complex was constructed Consisting of a renovation for the  existing 3,000 sf pool, bathhouse, ADA and code upgrades for lane competition pool, zero entry pool, spray ground, youth pool and water slides.

This project won the 2009 ABC Award for Excellence in Construction.
